Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and what hobbies/sports you do.
A: “Hi my name is Lauren and I’m 14. Some sports I do are golf and running. I enjoy listening to music, baking, and going out. I also play oboe, piano, and saxophone. ”
Q: How would you describe your transition from middle to high school?
A: “I would say that the transition was pretty smooth. I think that middle school and high school are honestly quite similar. Although the first week of school was difficult to find my way around and get used to the bell schedule, now it feels like just a bigger version of middle school. Academically, high school is a bit more demanding, but overall it’s not too bad (at least not yet). ”
Q: What class is the most interesting so far, and why?
A: “To me, Algebra 2 is the most interesting class. I’ve always liked math and I think that my teacher, Ms. B, makes it even more fun and engaging.”
Q: What are 3 words to describe your first months of high school, and why?
A: “Exciting, sociable, and interesting. Everything here is new, like the building itself, the people, and the classes. This makes even the little differences feel exciting. Through joining clubs and sports teams, I met a lot of people, and these things along with the fact that you get to make a lot of independent choices makes the whole experience interesting. ”
Q: How has high school surprised you so far? Were there any skills you had to learn to get work done or fit school into your schedule?
A: “I’d say the biggest surprise for me was how busy my schedule became. This past fall I did dual sports with golf and cross country. This combined with band, studying, and having me time made my days really busy. But, I learned how to balance this by deciding what I wanted to prioritize and planning out my weekly activities every Sunday.
Q: How do you want to remember your high school experience four years later? What are you doing now, or how do you plan to make that happen?
A: “I want to remember having fun and enjoying my high school years. I don’t want the only thing I remember to be how stressed out I was about school. As of right now, academics have been my main priority. While this will continue to be my main priority, I also want to make more time for extracurriculars. I’m in a few clubs right now, but my attendance for them is not always great. In the future, I want to find some extracurriculars that I really enjoy and become more involved with them. ”
