Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and what hobbies/sports you do.
A: I have been here for a really long time, both of my kids went here. Most of my hobbies outside of school are watching football and trying to get a garden started. Following my kids’ activities and reading.
Q: What do you teach and why?
A: I taught computer science for 11 years, I did math for 25 years. I chose math because that was how I started my course work when I went to college until I realized I was a little bit more social and then I transferred. I finished with a major in math and a minor in computer science.
Q: Have you always been interested in teaching?
A: No, I thought I wanted to be a computer programmer because I thought they were cool. Both sides of my family tree are teachers so it was nothing new to me.
Q: What/who inspired you to become a teacher?
A: Originally, the first decision was to figure out how to apply my interest in math and computing in a more social setting than just what I was going to get as a computer programmer. Both my parents were teachers so I got to see their jobs everyday and saw how fulfilling it could be.
Q: What do you do in your free time?
A: I like to go to music events and I still go to Huron events. In the summer, I go on vacation and I enjoy traveling up north.
Q: What is one motto you will always live by?
A: I always just try to do right by others. To try and help my students realize how important cliches like treating others how you want to be treated is important.
Q: What is your favorite teaching moment?
A: I think my job is filled with special moments. It’s always fun to see students who have been struggling accomplish great things.
Q: What surprised you about this year?
A:We flipped the rooms a little bit. I’m surprised that even though I have been teaching this material for years I still have sudden nuances from students that teach me new things.
