Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and what hobbies/sports you do.
A: “My name is Anthony Stewart. I’m a teacher at Huron High School. I’ve been teaching at Huron for 25 years, I went to Huron High School and graduated [in] 1985.”
Q: What do you teach and why?
A: “I teach social studies and English, those are my two certifications. I teach African American History and I teach Economics and Race in the History of Racism in the United States.”
Q: Have you always been interested in teaching?
A: “Yes, I have been teaching since I was young. I started teaching back in high school, actually.”
Q: What/who inspired you to become a teacher?
A: “I come from a family of teachers, and one of my mentors was a teacher who encouraged me to go into education.”
Q: What do you do in your free time?
A: “In my free time, I like to paint, I also like to do woodwork. I’m learning to build a boat right now.”
Q: What is one motto you will always live by?
A: “Be kind to others.”
Q: What is your favorite teaching moment?
A: “My favorite teaching moment is when a student is struggling, struggling, struggling, trying to understand something, and then the light comes on. I like it the most, because I know that in the struggle, that’s where they start to learn stuff.”
Q: What surprised you about this year?
A: “I would say how fast the year has been going. This year has been going really fast this year, just a lot of stuff going on.”
