TikTok is known for its vast and unique trends that many participate in to get a good laugh out of others or to put themselves out there. While most are meaningless along with being easily forgotten, one trend has been working to send out a message to the world. The trend on TikTok being mothers showing off how strong they bounce back after having their kids. This trend’s main focus is to highlight the idea that women are more than just mothers after they have their kids: they are who they always have been.
This trend first got popular on TikTok with the ‘MomTok’ algorithm before quickly reaching many different ‘For You’ pages. Part of this popularity came from the fact that the trend involves a song by singer Beyoncé called ‘Run the World (Girls).’ It focuses on the specific lyrics, “Strong enough to bear the children (Children) Then get back to business (Business).”
Women will show off when they were pregnant versus after their children are born: this is ‘getting back to business.’ This trend has gone viral with women all around the world sharing their transformations online.
The ladies in the videos are all doing different things to show how they are still living their lives while balancing motherhood. Many are either working out or videoing themselves going back to the business field, proudly lifting themselves up. A few showed off their hobbies like painting and baking too! Those online have showed lots of support to these ladies as the trend is also built on feminism. The song itself that started the trend is also feminist empowerment. This trend has is creating a positive impact on the internet, which we desperately need more of.
The goal of this trend is to show the internet that the idea society has that women stop being people after they have children is false! Ladies who have children still enjoy the hobbies they did before they got pregnant. They don’t need to fit into just one category now that they are a parent. Society is always talking about all these empowering women in the media, but to see regular ladies, not models, show the world that they will not conform to only having the role of mother is different. The more we see trends like this, the more normalized it will become to see ladies still not lose themselves after pregnancy.
