Places to get physical media in downtown Ann Arbor

Wazoo Records is a hidden gem of a record store, nestled right by Nickels Arcade. They have an intricate selection of records as well as books and magazines on music, and vintage DVDs. “My favorite thing right now [about Wazoo Records] is the atmosphere of the store,” owner Forest Juziuk said. “The store has been around since 1974, so a lot of what’s up is old and hand-picked across the board.”

As media moves further and further into the internet, physical media becomes all the more precious. Owning something rather than just consuming it through a public domain is so personal, but finding it can be a feat. Here are four places in downtown Ann Arbor that have an amazing selection of physical media.

Isha is a senior on her third and final year on the Emery. She is the founder and editor of the Sound of the River Zine, which posts every Friday. Isha is the president of the Sexual Assault Awareness Club and volunteers at the Humane Society. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music, attending shows in the Ann Arbor area, watching movies, and spending time with the people she loves. Her favorite movie is Trainspotting and her favorite flavor of ice cream is cookie dough.

Ava is currently in 12th grade and this is her first year on the Emery’s staff. In her free time she likes to make art and music, like printmaking and playing the bass. Ava’s favorite movie is The Royal Tenenbaums and her favorite flavor of ice cream is mint chip.
