The Huron Men’s Swim and Dive team successfully finished their season by competing at the states held on Mar. 11 and 12 in Holland Aquatic Center. Seven swimmers who made the state’s cut time in previous meets qualified for their individual and relay events.

Junior Peter Fazekas, who finished 12th in the 100 yard Breast, reflected on how memorable this season’s state meet was for the team.

“This was my third year qualifying for the states, but my second time attending because the state meet got canceled minutes before departure in 2020 due to the pandemic,” Fazekas said. “This year’s meet was really fun and full of high energy.”

Lindstrom finished third in 500 yard Free and 7th in 200 yard Free. O’Neal finished 12th in the 100 yard Back. Moskus and Gao finished 13th in the 200 yard Free Relay. Huron placed 16th overall at the meet.

“It was a great experience and a thrilling atmosphere to be around all the fastest guys in the state,” Moskus said. “As a team we got to spend a lot of time together and it sets the tone for next year.”

Wrapping up the season, Huron swimmers were proud to say this season was the best so far. Senior and the team Co-Captain Michael Shahine reflected back on his last season swimming at Huron.

“The Huron Swim team is definitely the most unique and action-filled team I’ve ever been on,” Shahine said. “There’s never a dull moment with those boys. The amount of memories and laughs shared in that locker room is unreal and I wouldn’t give it up for anything.”
