With 13 seconds left in the game, Huron’s season was on the line. The women’s basketball team made its final statement.
After trailing by two late in the fourth quarter, the River Rats got ahead with a string of clutch plays to defeat Pioneer 37-35 in a district matchup on Mar. 2.
“I was excited but scared at the same time because we were down 2 points,” Legacy Robertson said. “Then Chloe came in and made a layup, then Eline made a layup, then Kathrine made a 3 to end the game.”
Kathrine’s 3-pointer gave Huron the edge in the closing moments. Pioneer had one final opportunity, attempting to run a play in the final 13 seconds, but the River Rats held up to secure the win.
For Robertson, the victory carried meaning beyond the scoreboard.
“It means a lot because we can continue playing on to play the next team, and spend more time together as a team and a family,” she said.
Robertson said one of the biggest challenges came before tipoff.
“Getting over what happened earlier in the day and only locking in on basketball, making sure I was there for my team on and off the court,” she said.
With the win, Huron advances to the next round of district play. Robertson said the team understands what needs to improve moving forward.
“We know what we need to work on to be ready for the next game,” she said.
The River Rats will look to build on their late-game execution as they continue postseason play.
Tomorrow on Mar. 4, 2026 the team will play Saline at Saline High School. Tickets will be available at the door.
