Junior Tyler Fox won the Division I District five championship in the 144-pound weight class on Wednesday, Feb. 22. The title was an important achievement in his season and reflected the work he had put in throughout the year.
During the tournament, Fox relied on his go-to move, the single-leg takedown.
“It’s my go-to,” he said. “I’ve practiced it a lot, and I feel confident using it in big matches.”
The move helped propel his offense and played a key role in securing the victory.
A typical week of practice for Fox includes conditioning, drilling techniques, and live wrestling.
“We’re always working,” he said. “A lot of it is just repetition and making sure everything feels natural in a match.”
Practices can be physically demanding, but Fox understands the importance of consistency.
“You have to stay disciplined,” he said. “Even on days you’re tired, you still have to put the work in.”
Fox said handling pressure comes down to trusting his preparation.
“Before big matches, I just try to stay calm and focus on what I can control,” he said. “I remind myself that I’ve trained for this.”
He also credits his coaches and teammates for helping him throughout the season.
“They push me every day,” he said. “I wouldn’t be here without them.”
Fox describes himself as “Hardworking, determined, and reliable.”
As a junior, he still has another year ahead, but winning districts is already a significant accomplishment.
“It feels good to see the hard work pay off,” he said.
