The Huron River Rats wrestling team beat Skyline in a matchup that ended in a 42-41 victory Thursday, marking their first SEC win of the season.
Junior Tyler Fox was a crucial piece of this victory, when he pinned his opponent in the first period.
“I went out there and knew that I had to get the win to get the most points,” Fox said. “I knew I had to be dominant and made sure that he didn’t get a chance to win.”
Preparation was key for the team, with a specific program they followed for weeks in advance. They didn’t work on conditioning, but rather on technique, specifically on how to beat Skyline.
“To prepare for the meet I worked on perfecting specific moves and setting them up,” junior Giuliani Contreras said. “I also did some private training at home to prepare for Skyline.”
For assistant coach Daniel Crowley, this was a lot bigger than just the win. It’s all the work and dedication that’s happened behind the scenes.
