Every Friday, music comes on in the hallways during passing time. During school, students are often stressed by tests, homework, and the pressure from peers. Adding music to the school day makes a huge difference, especially when students pick the music.
Music is one of the easiest ways to make school a better environment. It doesn’t cost money, it doesn’t take time away from learning, and it benefits almost everyone. Music can help calm nervous students, boost confidence, and even encourage better behavior, as people are usually in a better mood when they hear songs they like. When students feel comfortable and happy, they are more likely to do well in class and stay focused.
Another benefit of Music Fridays is that they can help build a stronger sense of community within the school. When students hear songs that represent different cultures, styles, and personalities, it helps them positively learn more about each other. Music can bring people together, even students who might not typically interact with one another. Sharing songs creates moments of connection. Someone might hear a song they love and instantly bond with a classmate who likes it too. These small interactions can make school feel friendlier, all because of something as simple as music in the hallways and choosing it.
The best part of Music Fridays is deciding what songs are played. If faculty choose all the music, it might not match what the students actually listen to. Although everyone’s opinions matter, students should have a voice in what is played. Students should be able to vote for songs or submit their favorites through a school form or poll. This would make music Fridays feel fair and helps students feel like the school cares about their opinions.
Allowing students to choose what music is played can calm the stress from being at school and bridge connections with others. This can encourage more creativity in the school and overall, make Huron a more welcoming environment.

I don’t think this is accurate… they haven’t played music since october? It was so much fun and I miss it! Good article though 🙂
