Going downtown this weekend, I was able to visit Bon Bon Bon, a small chocolate shop specializing in different designs of small chocolate cubes. Located in the historic Nickels Arcade alley, Bon Bon Bon offers a wide selection of chocolates with varied fillings and designs to choose from their menu.
Paired with the cute interior of the shop, it is safe to say that initially I had high expectations for the taste of these delicately crafted chocolates. After deliberating for a long while as to which chocolate to get, we decided to try “Bumpy,” described officially as “a fudgy chocolate cake cream with buttercream,” and High Tea, described as with “Earl Grey tea, Devonshire cream dark chocolate ganache, hemp seed gianduja smoked sugar, cornflower petals.” Each chocolate was worth $3.50, and the size of the chocolate was around the size of a large Lego piece.
Given to us in the signature Bon Bon Bon paper boxes, the packaging of the chocolate was adorable.
As for the actual flavor of the chocolate, we found it to be disappointing. “Bumpy,” was quite underwhelming. Possibly due to just the particular chocolate I received, the chocolate cake cream had the faint taste of plastic and the buttercream wasn’t as rich as I previously hoped from the positive Google Reviews. It wasn’t a bad chocolate per say, but it wasn’t worth $3.50 in my opinion. We had similar feelings about “High Tea.” Though it was marketed as in relation with Earl Grey tea, the chocolate had only the faintest taste of the actual tea flavor, potentially due to the overpowering of the chocolate ganache. Despite the disappointing taste, it is safe to say however, that like many of the other options in Bon Bon Bon, the appearance and design of High Tea was beautiful, with its metallic layer and the sprinkled bits of blue cornflower.
Although the marketing of Bon Bon Bon was outstanding, ultimately, we found the chocolate to be not worth the price. However, if you are looking for well designed chocolates and cute packaging for gifting, Bon Bon Bon is worth visiting!
