Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and things you do in and out of school.
A: Hi, my name is Halynn Kim and I am a freshman at Huron High School. I really like fall because the weather is perfect for going outside and wearing my go-to hoodie. Also, I recently discovered the benefits of soy milk and have been drinking it everyday. Some things I do in school are clubs and sports while outside of school I study and babysit my sibling.
Q: Out of all your extracurriculars, clubs, and sports, which one is your favorite and why?
A: My “favorite” sport is cross country because although it drains energy, it helps me to be resilient because the workouts are incomparable. Also, beating your personal record is the best reward after a hard run.
Q: How are you liking your first year at Huron?
A: My first year at Huron is going decently, I like my classes and my friends make it better especially in classes like history and science. I’m glad that the library has a wider variety of book choices than middle school and so do clubs.
Q: What is your favorite class so far and why?
A: My favorite class so far is math because most of my friends are in the class. I get to work with competitive people which influences me to work harder to achieve higher goals. I do have a love-hate relationship with math, however.
Q: Who is one of your favorite teachers and why?
A: One of my favorite teachers is my Spanish teacher, Ms. Elam, because her humor is entertaining and makes me laugh. I think her and my humor chords are relatively similar.
Q: What is a class you want to take in the future and why?
A: A class I want to take in the future is AP Biology because it is a class that is more advanced than regular biology which seems like a hard challenge but something that I could benefit from because I would broaden my knowledge and interest in biology.
Q: What is something you weren’t expecting about high school?
A: I was expecting to have an increase in workload but I wasn’t expecting that it would mean having excellent time management skills; it is difficult to manage extracurriculars and academics and time management plays a crucial role.
Q: What advice would you give about the first weeks of high school to incoming 8th graders?
A: For academics, I would tell them to focus on making sure you really understand what you learned as well as reviewing what you learned that day, it lessens the burden when it comes to test days. For social life, meet new people, expand your social circle and find a group of friends you can connect and share hobbies with. I am really shy when I first meet new people and it’s something I am working on but I think putting yourself out there is really important.
Q: What is an interesting fact or hidden talent about yourself?
A: Something interesting about me is that I love the smell of fresh books although I don’t read as often as I should. Sometimes, if I go to bookstores, I just smell the books and not end up getting any. I also like reading dystopian/historical fiction books because the plot is always interesting.
Q: What is a hot take of yours?
A: Avocado with spicy food tastes amazing. I think I don’t need to explain it because it’s true.
