On Tuesday, April 28, the women’s varsity tennis team took on Monroe in a match that ended 8-0 with Huron taking the win.
Each point is gained by a single or doubles win against the opposing team.
Doubles player Kayla Fu said that she and her doubles partner, Chelsea Nguyen, prioritize their communication.
“We’re trying to be one step ahead of our opponents,” Fu said. “We’re trying to make sure that we’re always hitting the ball consistently so they’re the first ones to miss. We aren’t looking to win every point but to draw it out as far as we can so that they’re the ones who make the mistakes first.”
Fu and Nguyen find time to discuss their plays before matches as well as throughout, in between points, when they walk each other to the baseline.
“While we walk together to reset the point, we’ll talk to each other about what we can do differently” Fu said. “So basically, every single point has a new reset, a new strategy.”
Their next game is today at 4 p.m. against Dexter.
