Q: Tell us a little about yourself. What are you coaching this year?
A: “I’m the new varsity softball coach and I am an English teacher at Huron.”
Q: What motivated you to start coaching?
A: “I really care about the community and I played softball in high school. It was a really big part of my high school experience and I knew that we needed a coach here. And since I care about the students here, I thought maybe I had something to offer them.”
Q: What are you looking forward to in coaching?
A: “I’m having so much fun already just getting to play the sport I love with students and I’m looking forward to turning the program around. The program has been having trouble for years, they haven’t had a lot of wins, but I want to build a culture where everybody supports each other and we can have some success.”
Q: Do you have past experience coaching?
A: “I’ve been coaching younger kids for a long time and I’m a parent. I’ve been coaching my kids since they were in kindergarten. They’re in middle school now. This is my first time coaching at the high school level.”
Q: How do you feel going into this season?
A: “I’m nervous but I’m excited and I think that I kind of share that feeling with a lot of my team. I’m mostly excited about getting to know everybody and getting to build a team culture. I’m nervous because we are going to have a really tough season. We face a lot of really tough teams, but I hope that we can all keep learning and developing our skills.”
Q: What is one way you plan to motivate your players throughout the season?
A: “By having fun.”
Q: How will you measure success this season? How will you know if you had a successful season?
A: “If the players had fun and if they want to come back next year.”
