There are lots of students in the baseball program at Ann Arbor Huron high school, including senior Alex Cole. Cole has big plans for his career in baseball. Cole was eight years old when he began to play travel baseball. However, Cole was always focusing on hockey throughout his childhood. He later changed his focuses on baseball and he has never looked back.

“It kinda got in the way with what I wanted to do with baseball,” Cole said.

Cole has played on the varsity baseball team for Huron high school since he was a freshman. He continues to play on varsity and travel teams throughout the school year. He recently committed to Northwood University in Midland, Michigan to play baseball. He was able to connect with many scouts throughout the summer during baseball leagues and games. His dad also worked as a coach for the University of Michigan baseball team.

“He’s always kinda been that blue-collar like, ‘what’s the problem? we’re going to work through it’,” Cole said. “I’ve always admired my dad for that.”

Baseball has helped Cole in many ways, including emotionally over the years.  When he played hockey, anger was considered the norm during the sport. While playing baseball, he was able to work on overcoming that anger. Baseball helped Cole discipline himself and manage his feelings during the games.

“I get pretty angry during baseball, but I’ve gotten better at controlling that,”  Cole said.

As Cole gets closer and closer to graduation he begins to get organized for his routines and schedules at Northwood University.

“Baseball is one part of my life that is pretty planned out,” Cole said. “I know what’s going on so I wouldn’t say I take super hard classes school wise because I only needed certain things to be eligible to play.”
