Girls Group has two groups: “Let’s Get Real” and “Young Women for Change,” which respectively meet on Mondays and Fridays.

Girls Group is a program with the mission to “empower young women to achieve emotional and economic self-sufficiency by ensuring they graduate from high school and begin their college or career journeys.” It is made up of two student-led groups. One group is called “Let’s Get Real” and students meet bi-weekly on Mondays to discuss social justice topics. They lead the conversation and discuss issues in their community. The other group is called “Young Women for Change” and students meet bi-weekly on Fridays to discuss community change and ways they can impact their community.

Currently, Girls Group is meeting virtually on Zoom. Students can meet individually with mentors and they can also participate in the group sessions we hold bi-weekly.

“We even have a college and career prep program running virtually for juniors and seniors,” mentor Sydney Morgan-Green said. “We’ve had a few back to school events already, but our biggest event is our Annual Fundraiser on Oct.17. Unlike any other year, our fundraiser will be virtual and free to anyone who registers.”

This event will allow people to see how Girls Group impacts the lives of our participants and how they’ve helped them through the pandemic. If anyone is interested, they can contact Program Manager Kristen at [email protected] and you can find more information about Girls Group at girlsgroup.org.
