Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and what hobbies/sports you do.

A: “I play tennis for Huron in the spring and golf in the fall.”

Q: How is this years learning different than last years?

A: “I think it’s cool because sophomore year you have a little bit more freedom in what classes you want to choose. Last year there were a lot of kids in classes who just wanted not to pay attention, which is fine because it’s freshman year. But now that it’s sophomore year, I think it’s interesting how a lot more people have stepped up and are not screaming in the back of the classroom.”

Q: Which classes have you found the most interesting and why?

A: “I really like my engineering class a lot because it’s not like most. First of all, the actual physical classroom is a lot different. There are machines everywhere, computers everywhere, and we’re very rarely sitting down and being lectured. The class is very hands-on and you’re always building something. I also have friends in that class which makes it fun because you get to do it with the people you enjoy spending time with. ”

Q: Describe something that surprised you coming back to school this year that you weren’t expecting?

A: “I wasn’t expecting the phone rules to change. Last year I guess it was an issue but I didn’t think it was that big of an issue. This year, on the first day of school, they(the staff) where like, no phones, you can’t go into the hallway with you’re phone, blah, blah, blah.”

Q: What are your thoughts about personal project? What were some challenges you have faced so far? What are you working on?

A: “I’m redecorating my home, which sounds pretty fun and my room is big which I’m grateful for. But this means decorating it is a lot harder because my room and ceilings are really high. Budget is a big deal because my parents don’t want to spend a bajillion dollars redecorating which is valid. I have to figure out a way to get everything I want to fit into my budget and this is going to be hard because my budget is tiny and I have a lot of stuff.”

Q: If you could change one thing from your freshman self, what would it be?

A: “I would say yes, grades are important and you should be keeping them up. But at the end of the day it’s not that serious, especially in freshman year. It is stressful because you’re in a whole new environment but take a chill pill, grades aren’t everything. I think what’s more important is actually enjoying your time at school and learning because that’s what we’re gonna do.”
