Teacher Tuesday: Ms. Simmons

Glory Bradley, Staff Writer

Q: What made you decide to teach at Huron?

A: “I didn’t, I got the job here and that’s how I arrived at Huron.  I decided to become a teacher because I thought I could make a difference in kids’ lives, as opposed to the teachers I had in high school.”

Q: What have been some struggles?

A: “Mostly the way that outside forces get invoked in pubic education such as funding, standardized testing and the bureaucracy of education.”

Q: What’s the best way to quiet a class?

A: “Wait.”

Q: What’s your favorite subject to teach?

A: “Literature. Presently,  I’m in love with 20th-century literature.”

Q: How do you accommodate kids with learning disabilities?

A: “I give them the time that they need and any extra support that may be necessary.”
