A Yemeni coffee shop that opened just a few weeks ago in downtown Ann Arbor, Moka & Co. is the perfect place to study with a coffee. Their menu has a rich background and tradition: the coffee beans are handpicked and sun-dried, an essence of Yemen’s ancient agricultural practices. Their menu includes cheesecakes, milk cakes, Dubai chocolate bars, muffins, and other sweets.  

When I went to Moka & Co., I tried their signature drink, a Moka Spice Latte, a Pistachio Latte, and a Pistachio Milk Cake. The Moka Spice Latte is made with traditional Yemeni beans and spices, giving it a unique kick. Next, the Pistachio Latte was really enjoyable– probably my favorite. I could taste the pistachio, but it wasn’t strong, and the honey sweetener balanced it out. Lastly, the Pistachio Milk Cake was also enjoyable. The moistness of the cake with the cream on top created the perfect combination (and it wasn’t too sweet). 

Even though I had never tried Yemeni coffee or desserts before this, I was pleasantly surprised by each menu item I tried. As a coffee enjoyer, I love trying unique types from different cultures, and Moka & Co. did not disappoint. I would definitely come back to try more traditional coffee choices, such as a Mufawar or Maleki Coffee. So, whether to quietly study or enjoy a glass of traditional Yemeni drink, I highly recommend visiting Moka & Co. for your next trip to downtown Ann Arbor.
