Volleyball has been a big part of senior Mohammed Alam’s life since middle school.
“I currently play club volleyball, so that’s the season we play in the fall/winter,” Alam said. “We are a national team, so our club travels all around the country. We play at conferences that are held in a lot of different places. We go to cities like Chicago and Brighton, among many other great cities we’ve played at previously. Last year, we even got the Conference Champions.”
Despite the COVID pandemic that presented multiple difficulties in continuing his volleyball career, Alam pushed through and continued to play through high school.
“I didn’t really play in middle school because of COVID,” Alam said. “But then I made the team around sophomore year for Huron.”
Being part of the Huron community and playing for Huron brings a lot of meaning to Alam.
“The community is one thing I love about Huron,” Alam said. “Everyone’s super close to each other, and it’s super easy to become friends with just a bunch of people.”
Alam believes the DP program Huron offers students encourages this bonding between students in the Huron community and strengthens the community overall.
“The DP program allows everyone to really bond together since we all have the same classes for two whole years,” Alam said. “We even have the same teachers for those two years.”
Looking forward, Alam hopes to study engineering at University of Michigan while continuing his volleyball career.
“I don’t know what kind of engineering I’m gonna do right now, but I’m gonna do one that I actually like and enjoy,” Alam said. “The University of Michigan also has a club volleyball team, so I’m gonna join that as well and just continue playing volleyball since it’s really fun. After that, I’m gonna see where life takes me, I guess.”
