Preparation for Walkout

Sami Ruud, Staff Editor

With the recent Parkland school shooting, the nation is calling for action, and students are a large part of that action. Huron, along with many other schools, will be participating in the National School Walkout on March 14, 2018. In preparation for this walkout, students have made posters, written speeches, and some even organized the event.

On March 13, a few students gathered in room 4302 after school in preparation for the next day’s event. They made posters to hold at the walkout, and one student got her poem that she is performing at the walkout approved by the student organizers. The logistics were also worked out by the two students who have taken charge of the event for Huron, Sophia Gibson and Anna Scott.

Students will meet at the football field at 10:00 am on March 14, and will protest for 17 minutes, in honor of the 17 students who were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14. There will be a megaphone for student speakers, and a schedule has been made for the event so it is both productive and peaceful.
