Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and what hobbies/sports you do.
A: “In my free time, I like to draw, listen to music, and hangout with friends. I play alto sax with the Huron Band and Jazz Band, and I know some German.”
Q: How is this years learning different than last years?
A: “Compared to last year, there’s a lot more homework and teachers have higher expectations.”
Q: Which classes have you found the most interesting and why?
A: “A class I find the most interesting is French. Learning new languages can be fun, especially since I have friends in that class.”
Q: Describe something that surprised you coming back to school this year that you weren’t expecting?
A: “This year, the marching band has been doing a lot in significantly less time. The marching rehearsals I remember from last year felt a lot less intense, but I’m impressed that the freshmen are working so hard.”
Q: What are your thoughts about personal project? What were some challenges you have faced so far? What are you working on?
A: “For my project, I’m learning the guzheng (a traditional chinese instrument). One challenge I’ve faced is having the discipline to practice everyday. I like that personal project gives people the opportunity to pick up a skill/learn something new, and the fact that it’s an actual class helps to keep students motivated.”
Q: If you could change one thing from your freshman self, what would it be?
A: “I would probably pay more attention in class. Things you learn in your freshman year build a foundation for stuff that will be part of your classes as you get older, and if you never make an effort in the beginning, it’s unlikely that it’ll get better later.”
