Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and things you do in and out of school.
A: I love writing books or articles. Everytime I have a dream about something engaging I take notes and use it in my writing. Writing feels like discovering something new, and creating my own world about certain things. Writing provides me a time and place where I can control everything on my own.
Q: What was your favorite Huron event from last year, and what did you like about it?
A: I liked the personal project exhibition. It was so fun to meet friends who I don’t have the same class with. And looking at their prosperous effort and product, it gave me an idea of my own future.
Q: What is your favorite class at Huron and what do you like about it?
A: My favorite class was biology. I liked the teacher, Mr. Lincoln, first of all. And I just generally liked biology. I liked the idea of evolution. I feel like Gene ablation shows how intelligent and adaptable our environments are. Learning about cells is especially intriguing because human beings can not see it through our own eyes. It feels like a new world. Sounds a little nerdy, but I still think biology is one of the most captivating subjects.
Q: What is a class you want to take in the future, and why does it interest you?
A: I want to take AP classes related to science. Like AP biology, AP chem and Earth science. I don’t typically like chemistry, but I have to know basic chemistry things to learn AP biology. Biology shows the intelligence of our environments through the cells and evolution. Also like how the Earth had been created, learning something we assume and predict about the unknown past is really interesting.
Q: Who is one of your favorite teachers at Huron and why?
A: I love Mr. Lincoln. He makes the lesson fun, explains things in detail, and takes time to help students if they fail behind. Also we did many fun experiments with things like Jellies. One thing is that I had his class in my 7th hour, so everything seemed compelling having class right before I got out of school.
Q: What are your thoughts about your personal project? What were some challenges you have faced so far? What are you working on?
A: Before I did the exhibition, I thought it would not really help my future. However, when I saw all the exhibitions from my friends, where I showed their expectations of their own future, that engaged my own imagination.
Q: What is your favorite memory from last year and why?
A: The test days at the end of the semester. There was less pressure to wake up in the morning on test day since we usually have one or two tests a day. Also the day we took our last final, it felt like we were released from school for 2 months.
Q: If you could change one thing from your freshman self, what would it be?
A: I procrastinated a lot in my freshman year, which made it nerve-wracking right before the due day. I try not to finish the assignments right before the due date.
Q: What is something you weren’t expecting about sophomore year?
A: I wasn’t expecting the exhibition in personal project class. It was interesting to walk around in the gym, looking for my friends’ work.
Q: What is an interesting fact or hidden talent about yourself?
A: I am good at languages. I came to the US 3 years ago. As far as I know, I don’t think I have such an intonative accent as an Asian. I try to think or read in English all I can.
Q: What is a hot take of yours?
A: I think the most cute animal in the world is the duck.
