The flawed Huron lunch system

The Huron lunch system is defective in many ways and here is why.

First, the line. The lunch line for Huron’s lunch is absolutely outrageous. The hallway that leads up to where the food is served is so full every lunch, that it is spilling out into the main halfway making it hard for students to get into the cafeteria. The hall is about 8 feet wide and students get absolutely packed into that small space – so much so that there has to be a person waiting at the front of the food area to close it off like a bouncer. This leads to uncomfortable touching and situations. Many students have reported being shoved and pushed over in the line leading to bruises or even further injuries.

Second, the portions. This applies to all the food besides the nacho station. If you plan on getting anything other than nachos then plan on being hungry for the rest of the day because one piece of pizza just isn’t going to do it. It is recommended that a teenager should be consuming about 500-700 calories for lunch, whereas a single slice of pizza would come to an average of 300 calories. If you would like to get more, then you would have to pay for it using money in your account which most people don’t have any in there because of the lunches free lunch policy.

Third, the back exit. The back exit is the place where you would exit the serving area with your food. However, there are many students that don’t want to wait in the very long line at the entrance, so they end up just entering through the back exit, therefore cutting the whole line. This is a major flaw in the system that I believe they should fix by implementing some sort of security at the exit to prevent this from happening.

There are obviously many flaws in the Huron lunch system that can and should be corrected for a better lunch experience for the students.
