The Huron varsity water polo team is out to an exciting start in the 2023 season.
The River Rats are starting out with a 7-6 start against in-state opponents despite playing some very talented schools.
“I think it’s gone well. We’ve had a few losses to top 3 teams as a rough start to the season but we’re bouncing back and continuing to get better,” captain Graham Baker said.
Baker plays the position called set, which is similar to the center position in basketball. He likes playing water polo because of the high scoring action that comes with the game.
“This year our communication on defense has been really strong,” Baker said. “Our press has surprised me and I am very excited for the rest of the season.”
Despite this success they are having on defense, Baker feels that they need to work on having better communication on offense.
“We need to work better as a team on offense and make sure we are keeping good game awareness on the offensive side,” Baker said.
Huron is matched up against their rivals, Seaholm High School on Thursday evening, September 14th. They look to get a good result there and move on to the rest of the season, where the River Rats feel that they can achieve something special this year.
