Freshman Friday: Kyle Johnsen
February 24, 2023
Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and what hobbies/sports you do.
A: My name is Kyle and I’m a freshman. I play soccer competitively but also enjoy other sports. I like to hang out with my friends in my free time.
Q: How would you describe your transition from middle to high school?
A: The transition from middle school to high school was much easier than I expected. I was a bit worried before the start of the year but once the classes started I realized that high school is like middle school except a different school and better. I also went to Tappan, which is the biggest middle school, so I probably had an easier time than others.
Q: What class is the most interesting so far and why?
A: Engineering Design is the most interesting class so far. We learn how to use CAD software to 3D print and laser cut things, the room is super nice, and the people in the class are very entertaining. The teacher, Mr. Cupit, is also very good.
Q: What are 3 words to describe your first months of high school and why?
A: Fun, stressful, and entertaining describe my high school so far.
Q: How has high school surprised you so far? Were there any skills you had to learn to get work done or fit school into your schedule?
A: High school surprised me because I was caught off guard by the amount of homework and studying. In middle school, I would do my work for small amounts of time each class and have almost no homework. At the start of the year, I did not spend enough time studying and doing my work, so I had to learn how to minimize distractions and get my work done at home.
Q: How do you want to remember your high school experience four years later? What are you doing now or how do you plan to make that happen?
A: I want to remember high school as a time when I had a lot of fun and free time. The way to do that is to not procrastinate during class, because then I have to spend hours at home catching up. I think if I do my school work during class then I am usually able to have enough time at home to relax.
