When I was 12 years old, I was recommended to watch The Vampire Diaries by a friend. The show grabbed my attention immediately and I instantly fell in love with it. And, ever since then, The Vampire Diaries has been my favorite show of all time. I have watched the entire show multiple times and it has always been my comfort show. However, on September 4, they removed The Vampire Diaries from Netflix in the United States. I believe The Vampire Diaries shouldn’t have been taken off Netflix. 

The CW’s The Vampire Diaries came out in 2009, and was developed by Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson. It is based off of the book series, and follows the lives of Elena Gilbert, Damon Salvatore, and Stefan Salvatore, in the town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. It is filled with romance, emotion, mystery, action and more. Also, it has won 35 awards and been nominated for 94. 

Netlflix’s decision affected people all throughout America. It has even upset some members of the Huron community. 

“The Vampire Diaries was my favorite show and I’d always watch it,” said sophomore Grace Caris. “It’d always make my day better. When it got taken off, I was so mad.”

People also expressed their emotions through social media. Netflix received hundreds of comments on TikTok discussing their opinions on the removal. 

“Why are you taking the vampire diaries off, Netflix? it’s such a great show that a lot of people watch,” said @jayla.binder18 on TikTok.

“Netflix don’t take vampire diaries off; it’s literally the best show on there,” said @michelinaa_dgaf on TikTok. 

There were even various petitions created to save the show. On change.org, a “SAVE THE VAMPIRE DIARIES ON NETFLIX” petition was created with almost 17,000 signatures. 

The show was also very highly rated, in comparison to other Netflix shows. The Vampire Diaries received 4.8/5 stars, whereas Netflix’s current top 2 shows, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and In the Dark, received 4.7/5 and 4.5/5 stars. 

So, why would Netflix remove this show, which is loved by so many? The Vampire Diaries shouldn’t have been removed from Netflix, and it needs to be put back on the streaming service.
