Q: What extracurriculars did you do at Huron?

A: “I was in rising scholars exec board. It’s a group that helps the community and kids that are minorities. We just helped people. It was cool.”

Q: What would you say is your best memory from Huron?

A: “Probably the [basketball] game against Pioneer. We were playing Pioneer at Pioneer and in the first game, I didn’t get to play because I was injured. In the second game, I helped in beating them, I was one of our leading scorers.”

Q:
What’s the best part of being on the basketball team?

A: “The best part about being on the basketball team is being able to win every game because we’re such a good team. We were so good that we only lost one game. We shouldn’t have probably lost that game. I think we ended the season 22 to 1.”

Q: Are you sad that you’re leaving Huron?

A: “Maybe because I will stop seeing my girlfriend so much but not really, it’s just school you gotta move on, the next thing is going back to school and doing the same thing for four years.”

Q: Where are you planning to go?

A: “I’m not sure yet but if I’m still not sure I’ll go to Ohio Dominican University.”

Q: Who are the people that meant most to you in high school?

A: My girlfriend, coach Samaha my basketball coach and Ms. Eaddy-Richardson, she was a counselor.”

Q: Could you tell me more about your coach?

A: “He has high expectations for everybody no matter who you are, he’ll get you to try your hardest.”

Q: Do you have any favorite teachers?

A: “Mr.Ericson, he teaches English. At first, he wasn’t [my favorite teacher]. At first, I didn’t like him, but he always showed interest and liked me so I thought; I guess he is cool and you can’t be mean to somebody who’s always nice.”

Q: Are you looking forward to going to college?

A: “I’m kinda stoked because I got time to grow up. I’m looking forward to college because I can be a man. You gotta teach yourself how you gotta be a man on your own. You have role models but at the end of the day your role models are gonna get you so far, they’re just gonna show you what’s right but you’re gonna have to make the right decision yourself so yeah I’m pretty excited.”

Q: Are you looking forward to going away for college and leaving Ann Arbor ?

A: “I wanna leave because I wanna be on my own.”

Q: Are you gonna miss Ann Arbor?

A: “Yeah only because I’ve been here for so long so it’s hard not to. It’s a nice little city I’ll probably come back once I get a little cheese in my pockets.”

Q: Is there any kind of work you wanna do that you’re looking forward to?

A: “I wanna work in the FBI and I want to go to school to study criminology and sociology. I’m really excited about learning what I wanna learn about. In college, they teach you stuff about real life. If you wanna learn something you’re gonna learn. In high school, they teach you what they want you to know. I  don’t always want to learn what I don’t care about, and I won’t retain any of that information, but for something that I care about I’ll always try to remember and to be the best.”
