The Huron Men’s Varsity Soccer team brought home the Regional Championship on Thursday night, defeating Edsel Ford 2-0 in a long arduous match hosted in Saline’s stadium. Teachers, students, and administrators filled the stands with roars of excitement with each goal.
Senior Jules Heskia left a ball in the back of Edsel Ford’s net early on in the first half shifting the flow of his opponent’s gameplay. The second goal came later on in the second half as Unejs Ramaxhiku weaved his way through oncoming defenders creating the perfect opportunity to take a shot that secured the River Rat’s lead and would ultimately make them regional champions.
“I felt my performance was good, but always could be better,” Ramaxhiku said. “I knew we had to score one more to secure the win and I decided to take a shot on goal and it went in. As a somewhat new member of the team I felt like I was able to give my 100% in every practice and game.”
“I always played for the team and my teammates,” Ramaxhiku explains while reflecting on his passion and drive. “I also gave feedback on what we could do to improve as a team as well.”
“I saw Kinley had the ball and I immediately knew he was going to take on the defender,” Heskia said. “As soon as he got past the defender, I made the run towards the goal and next thing I know is that the ball is at my feet. I just had to tap it into the net.”
With this resilient effort and hard work that the Huron Men’s Varsity Soccer team have carried out throughout the full season, they continue to stay significantly ahead of their opponent in game reflecting in their record. Huron will move on to the State Semi-Finals hosted in Troy on Wednesday Oct. 29 and tickets can be purchased on GoFan.
