Hi again, I wrote to you about a year ago and thought I should write back!
So far, high school has been calm but stressful, since it’s super different from middle school, and my pile of homework just keeps building. Sadly, we didn’t get into Green for orchestra, but that’s okay cause we have plenty of time to improve! So far, orchestra has been pretty great lately, with new friends that I made from Interlochen Camp during the summer!
However, we did get into the Rowing Team for Huron (yup, I learned how to swim surprisingly quickly—in only a month—but don’t expect me to be amazing at it), and so far it’s been going very well! We even took first place at our regatta last weekend against Pioneer and Saline! Let’s hope we can keep the winning streak going. Oh, and don’t worry, the boat hasn’t flipped yet. Let’s hope we don’t in the future. Also, we haven’t really gotten used to the running part of rowing, even though it’s been more than a month so far.
Anyways, we’re still doing newspaper and enjoying it (although we have to take Health and Gym next summer, which is something I’m not looking forward to)! It’s been super fun so far, and I have many ideas this year for articles to post that explore many topics!
My passion for listening (and secretly singing) to many genres of music 24/7 (sadly not during class times, though) hasn’t changed, and so far, I have been listening to songs by beabadoobee, Maddox Batson, and a few songs from “The Runarounds,” even though I haven’t watched the series yet. However, I definitely plan on watching it soon!
I also continue to bake a lot, and love it. Recently, I made some gooey s’mores cookies that tasted heavenly, but Mom said they were too sweet (I don’t think she really has a sweet tooth like me). Baking has become a way for me to unwind after a busy, long week. It’s undoubtedly fun to try and experiment with different ingredients to make the recipe more unique. Plus, it leaves the whole house redolent with delicious smells of whatever’s baking in the oven.
Although this year I changed a few goals that I had from last year. Starting with trying to get good grades this year, since my grades last year were… Let’s just say they weren’t the best, so I’m going to aim for staying focused on my studies and grades.
Another goal I have is to learn how to cox a boat, which is steering the boat, giving directions, and encouraging other rowers. So far, I’ve crashed into a lot of trees while steering, so let’s hope it gets better.
Anywho, that’s how things are for me right now. Hopefully, by the time I read this again, I’ll have made even more memories and come closer to my goals (or maybe have already reached them). Just remember to keep working hard, but don’t forget to have fun along the way. There’s so much to look forward to in the future! I can’t wait to see how much we’ve grown when we read this again.
With lots of love,
Present Sophia
