Each year, hundreds of new students enter the school, beginning their first ever week of high school. While the first week can be many things at once — overwhelming, exciting, and exhausting are just to name a few — these experiences can be even more intense for freshmen, who are just transitioning from middle school to high school. As the second week of school begins, a few Huron freshmen share how their first week went.

“My first week of school was good,” freshman Emily Ku said. “The other classes were easy. I was expecting that classes would be harder, but [they weren’t]. My classes that were [advanced] were harder, like Earth Science and Algebra 2 AC, but the other classes were easy. I also got lost like ten times.”

Freshman Jayani Tavane Shivakumar also had trouble finding her classes at first, but was able to get help from friends and teachers.
“My first week has been a little chaotic but also pretty fun,” Tavane Shivakumar said. “Trying to find my classes at Huron on my first day was honestly really hard, but I got help from different teachers and friends. It was also really fun finding out who I had classes with and meeting my new teachers and classmates.”
Similar to Tavane Shivakumar, freshman Amy Schneider shared a good first week as well, and fortunately managed not to get lost.

“It was fine,” Schneider said. “I managed to find all my classes, which I’m thankful for. My classes are fun, and all my teachers seem nice. I was expecting the school to be huge, which it is, but I was also expecting to get lost, which I didn’t.”
