On May 30, the Huron Girls Varsity Tennis team competed at the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) States taking place in Grand Rapids.
Since March, the team has been training consistently in preparation for Regionals and States tournaments.
“We had a fantastic season overall. Everyone really progressed from where we started in March.” Girls Tennis Varsity Head Coach Elizabeth Williamson said, “But watching the team grow, both as individuals in their own play, but also as a community and a team was the best part throughout the year.”
During the tournament, the Girls Varsity Tennis team placed 11th in the state for Division I with a total of nine team points. With four more points compared to team points from last year, the Girls Varsity Tennis team improved immensely score and placement-wise.
“What was really awesome was not only did the coaches and players recognize their skill level,” Williamson said, “But I had many coaches come up to us, giving us accolades for how much our program has grown over the past three years since I’ve started.”
The weekend wasn’t solely limited to competition however. Prior to the day of the tournament, the team had a great time practicing and going out to Olive Garden and the hotel waterpark.
“It was so fun staying overnight,” Jadhav said, “We went to Olive Garden and after that we went to the pool, which was so much fun.”
As to the future plans of the team, the Huron Girls Varsity Tennis team is looking forward to potential success at Regionals next season.
“A big goal for the future would be to win at Regionals,” Williamson said, “But at the end of the day too, it’s also making sure that as players, we are getting to experience the joy of tennis.”
