During a quad competition this past Saturday, senior Serena Chang delivered an impressive performance, defeating Okemos 6-2, 6-1. Her win showed her mental toughness, strategic thinking, and athletic strength.
“I was really tired, so I just wanted to get it over with,” Chang said. “So I just hit away from her, and she couldn’t get to any of the serves.”
She remained calm despite her exhaustion, Chang followed a clear strategy to succeed. Rather than trying to outlast her opponent she chose smart ball placement. She had to make sure to be focused on the court no matter the conditions.
“It was really bright,” Chang said. “So I really had to think of how I could switch up my serving and everything to avoid getting staring directly into the sun.”
WIth this being the last match of the day she had to have a positive mindset throughout to keep up the win.
“I just thought about winning and not giving up,” Chang said.
Serena’s performance not only secured a win for Huron but also showed the determination and grit that have defined her senior season. As she wraps up her final year, her leadership and skill remain valuable to the team.
