Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and things you do in and out of school.
A: Hi! My name is Jayeun, and I’m a junior at Huron. I’m an active member of numerous clubs at Huron, including Academic Games, Ethics Bowl, APEX, and SAT Prep Club. I also play the cello in the Huron Orchestra, and also outside of school as a member of different youth orchestras.
Q: What is your favorite Huron event and why? (Multi Culti, Homecoming, Clap Out, etc.)
A: My favorite Huron event is Multi Culti because I think it’s one of Huron’s best traditions. Getting to celebrate our diverse cultures is an amazing opportunity that our Multi Culti performance allows through a fun and exciting event for the entire school to enjoy. Also, being part of the show as a Huron APEX glowsticker, it’s a nerve-wracking yet unforgettable experience!
Q: Where is your favorite spot at Huron and why? (Certain lunch table, classroom, outdoor area, etc.)
A: My favorite spot at Huron is either the cafeteria, where we have our Academic Games practices, or Ms. Jones’ room in 6201, where we hold Ethics Bowl club meetings. Both clubs have become key parts of my school experience here at Huron, and these locations hold special meanings for me because of all the wonderful memories I have of them.
Q: What is one of your favorite high school memories and why?
A: One of my favorite high school memories is Interlochen of 2024, when the Huron Orchestras made their yearly summit to Interlochen Arts Academy. I got to make friends with so many new people, as well as create amazing new memories of Huron Orchestra that will stay with me forever.
Q: If you could make up a class and teach it at Huron, what class would you teach?
A: I would teach Korean! Our language department is already really expansive, but I believe Korean is a language that has become increasingly popular with the rise of Korean culture. It would be great to be able to share the Korean language, as well as traditional foods and customs.
Q: What is something you would redo about your sophomore year if you could?
A: I wish I could manage my time better. Especially during AP season, my time management and study strategies were not the best, and it caused a lot of stress. I feel like I could have handled everything much better if I had planned ahead even a month or two.
Q: What’s an interesting fact or hidden talent about yourself?
A: I do taekwondo! I started in fourth grade, and am now a Kukkiwon-certified second degree black belt.
Q: What is your favorite season during the school year and why?
A: I love spring! It’s always been my favorite season, because I love watching the weather take a turn for the better (I have many reservations about the cold). Also, I always feel more refreshed when I wake up and the sun is up.
Q: Who is your idol and why?
A: My idol is my Academic Games coach because he is, hands down, the coolest person I’ve ever met. Not only is he crazy smart and awesome, but his dedication to Academic Games and his love for us players is truly commendable.
Q: What is one lesson high school has taught you?
A: The greatest lesson high school has taught me is the power of perseverance. I’ve had my fair share of failures and letdowns, but there were always people who encouraged me to dust myself off and look towards the future.
Q: What is a hot take of yours?
A: Guys, please. Cha Eun-Woo is not that fine.
