Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and what hobbies/sports you do.
A: I am a Special Education Teacher, in my fifth year of teaching, third year at Huron High School. I have my bachelor’s in Special Education LD and my masters as a Reading Specialist from Eastern Michigan University. I am a die-hard Michigan State fan, Go Sparties!
Q: What do you teach and why?
A: I co-teach in two Geometry classes with Mr. Geiger and one section of Intensified Algebra with Mr. Wheeler. I have a personal love of math and truly enjoy Geometry now that I am an adult.
Q: Have you always been interested in teaching?
A: I have known since I was in fifth grade that I wanted to be a teacher.
Q: What/who inspired you to become a teacher?
A: My parents inspired me to be an educator. My mother was an Elementary ED music teacher for over 35 years. My father is a special education teacher at Milan high school and has been for over 32 years.
Q: What do you do in your free time?
A: During the spring/summer/fall I play softball three to four nights a week. My husband and I go camping year-round and take our dogs for walks.
Q: What is one motto you will always live by?
A: “In learning you will teach, in teaching you will learn.” I believe that there is always something new to be learned as both a kid and as an adult.
Q: What is your favorite teaching moment?
A: My favorite teaching moment has been watching my first group of freshmen become seniors. Watching them grow up to be young adults and see all that they have accomplished so far has been amazing.
Q: What surprised you about this year?
A: One thing that surprised me this year was how great the kids have been this year with all of the changes that happened at the end of last school. Change is a hard thing and the kids are doing well with it.
