On Saturday, April 12, Huron High School’s National Honors Society brought the community together for their annual charity: Book Bash. Designed to give back to the community, as well as spark the love for reading, Book Bash was a day of games and fun.
The event, which has become an event that many families anticipate each year, includes numerous activities for kids of all ages. Stations were set around the Huron Cafeteria. There were personalized bookmark crafting stations, rock painting, chalk, corn-hole, checkers, chess, bracelet making, and so much more. There was also a live storytime session where volunteers from the National Honors Society read aloud a children’s book while the kids listened intently.

“I really love it because it’s a combination of students hanging out and having a good time, providing a service to the community, and stepping out of our comfort zones and interacting with the younger generation,” senior president Alexander Svintsitski said.
True to its mission, Book Bash was entirely free to attend. The only requirement for entry was to bring a book to donate. From picture books to novels, the donations poured in. All books collected will be given to a local organization to support children and families in need, helping to spread the joy of reading to more people.
From setup to clean up, and every moment in between, the students who volunteered at the event were integral to making sure the event ran smoothly. Dressed in their National Honors Society shirts with smiles on their faces, they brought energy to every corner of the event. Two to three students took charge of each table, running the activity at that station.

Just one book as a donation can make a big difference.
“I just love the warmth this event brings. It makes me so happy to see all the kids having fun,” junior Secretary Averil Xu said.
