Let’s face it—homework is the worst. After a long day at school, nobody wants to go home and do even more work. Most of the time, it doesn’t even help; it’s just repetitive and exhausting. Instead of making us better students, it only leaves us frustrated and unmotivated, especially when it starts piling up.
We lose valuable time on homework that could be spent on more important things. We need that time to recharge—whether it’s for sports, work, family, or simply taking a break from school. Instead, we’re forced to complete worksheets that often feel like meaningless busywork. On top of that, some students have significant responsibilities at home. Not everyone has enough free time to do it all.
Balancing a job, sports, and school is already difficult. Athletes push their bodies and minds for hours during practice, games, and competitions. Many students also work jobs to support their families or save for college, making it even harder to juggle school and responsibilities. Adding homework on top of these packed schedules only increases stress and exhaustion. Schools should focus on learning within the classroom rather than keeping students up late with extra assignments.
Class time should be enough to learn the material, and if not, classes could be adjusted. It makes sense to assign unfinished classwork as homework, especially if students waste time in class. However, adding extra assignments on top of in-class work shouldn’t be acceptable.
Getting rid of homework would make school more meaningful and enjoyable. Education should be about truly understanding and applying knowledge, not just checking off assignments. It’s time to move away from outdated methods and create a better learning environment for students.
