The Columbia Scholastic Press Association honors noteworthy student publications each year. For their 2023-2024 book, Huron’s yearbook – The Enthymion – won the Gold Medalist rating with a total score of 956 out of 1000 in a critique of our 2023-2024 yearbook. This is the highest ranking a publication can receive for a yearbook critique. The main categories they were critiqued on were Essential, Verbal, and Visual, and evaluators also looked at theme development, writing, design, and photography.
“It feels great to win this award,” Mia Lin, a sophomore and one of the Editor-in-Chiefs for the Enthymion said. “The whole yearbook team worked extremely hard last year to meet every deadline, fully represent the student body, and create an outstanding collection of the year’s memories. This award acknowledges all of the time spent on every caption, mod, and spread.”
For the award, The Enthymion submitted their entire yearbook.
“I’m proud of all of it,” said Lin. ” The spread I love the best would probably be our Multi-Culti page. It starkly contrasts to the rest of the book; the background is completely dark, and the photos are close-up, portrait shots during the performances.”
This particular spread was designed by junior Brody Turner and class of 2024 Natalie Bohnsack.
“I remember first opening the spread and thinking “wow!” this is how content can truly drive your design,” adviser Sara-Beth Badalamente said. “Our photography skills were really showcased on those pages.”
Moving forward, The Enthymion hopes to continue creating amazing yearbooks that share the memories everyone has made so students can look back on the school year. They are currently working on their last two deadlines. They are planning to submit individual spreads for MIPA (Michigan Interscholastic Press Association) awards like the Spartan Award.
