Sophomore Lang Ren spends much of her free time exploring her passion for art, immersing herself in a variety of creative mediums. From doodles on her math homework to intricate paintings on her canvases, Ren finds ways to weave art into nearly every aspect of her life.
“I’ve been interested in art ever since I was young,” Ren said. “I learn better visually and have always expressed my thoughts and feelings through art. Throughout my life, I’ve stumbled upon various forms and techniques of art that grab my attention and keep me intrigued.”
Ren dedicates time each week to visiting an art studio, where she feels she can focus fully on her projects. The studio provides her with the freedom to experiment with different mediums, ranging from painting and coloring to pen and pencil work.
“I enjoy many styles of art, but I’m especially drawn to black-and-white styles, like sketching and ink pens, because it’s fascinating how much depth you can create using just shades of black and white,” Ren said. “At the same time, I also love working with vibrant colors—I have a lot of fun with painting and colored pencils.”
Like many artists, Ren encounters her share of challenges along the way.
“I’ve struggled to stay motivated to finish a piece of art,” she said. “I often start something and never finish it because I lose interest. Finding inspiration can also be tough—there’s so much I want to do, but there’s so little time.”
Despite these hurdles, Ren remains committed to her artistic journey, excited to continue exploring and growing as an artist. For her, each new piece is a chance to dive deeper into her creativity and discover something new about herself and her craft.
