Senior Macari Moore has been playing basketball since third grade, and was a crucial player in advancing the Huron’s Varsity Boys Basketball team to the 2024 Michigan State Championship Semifinals. From achieving 1,000 career points to being named 2024 Ann Arbor Player of the Year and earning first-team all-state honors, Moore’s dedication to the sport has propelled him to great lengths.
“I just really love the game of basketball,” Moore said. “It’s really important to me because I’ve just been watching it and playing it since I was a kid.”
His father – who played football and basketball in high school – and uncle, along with close friends, were the ones that motivated him to pursue the sport competitively.
Moore is number 21 on the Huron team and plays as a point guard. After being recruited for a year, Moore was offered a Division 1 position as an attacking guard for the Iowa State Cyclones in October of 2023. He is currently ranked #2 in Michigan, and #134 nationally, and received other D1 offers from schools such as Eastern Michigan University, The University of Toledo, Central Michigan University, Western Michigan University, and the University of Louisville.
“We are so excited to see the immediate impact that Macari makes on our program,” said T.J. Otzelberger, the head coach at Iowa State, in an Instagram post. “Macari Moore is a downhill attacking guard, somebody with great physicality with the basketball, drives through the point of contact, and loves getting in and making plays for his teammates.”
During the summer, Moore plays in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) travel team, which is where Iowa State found Moore.
“They ended up offering me the position because I went out there on an official visit, and the coach ended up offering a scholarship to play at the university,” Moore said. “I’m just blessed, and very happy about it. I can’t wait to go out there and play and just get that college experience.”
On Nov. 13 Moore officially signed with Iowa State University’s Basketball team and on the following day a press conference was held for the signing where he was able to celebrate with his family, coaches, and friends.
