Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and things you do in and out of school.
A: My name is Sarah and I’m currently a freshman at Huron. In school, I like talking to my friends, color guard and eating lunch. I also like sleeping. Outside of school, I like to bake, cook, crochet and I also take flute and piano lessons. I sleep a lot outside of school too.
Q: Out of all your extracurriculars, clubs, and sports, which one is your favorite and why?
A: My favorite extracurricular has to be colorguard. I’ve met some of the best people there, and I feel like colorguard has allowed me to make so many new connections and befriend so many upperclassmen. Honestly, the same thing goes for just marching band as a whole. I’ve never really had friends outside of my grade until Interlochen and marching.
Q: How are you liking your first year at Huron?
A: Huron is pretty different from middle school. Huron has a lot more classes and its hallways are much more confusing. I also feel like the workload is very overwhelming — at least at first, because I was definitely not prepared for it. I don’t enjoy the academic part of Huron too much, but I really like the social aspect of it. I feel like everyone knows each other and it’s just really great being able to talk to so many different people.
Q: What is your favorite class so far and why?
A: My favorite class so far is probably my band class. I never would have thought band would become my favorite class. It’s not based on what we learn, but I just have many more friends in my band class than in any other of my classes.
Q: Who is one of your favorite teachers and why?
A: My favorite teacher is probably Ms. Williams, because she’s just so chill and really nice. I feel like a lot of teachers have crazy expectations and don’t understand students that much either, but Ms. Williams has a good system about grading and rules in the classroom that just makes everyone really like her.
Q: What is a class you want to take in the future and why?
A: I really want to take all of the AP science classes. I’m not looking forward to the workload, but the field of medicine interests me as of no. I feel like those classes might help me further decide if I want pursue that path, and would help me if I do.
Q: What is something you weren’t expecting about high school?
A: I wasn’t expecting to make friends outside of my grade level, which is pretty ironic considering most of the new friends I’ve made are outside of my grade.
Q: What advice would you give about the first weeks of high school to incoming 8th graders?
A: I would say be prepared for all the assignments. Most of them are just busywork, but many teachers take off points for late work, and many of the assignments take up a lot of time.
Q: What is an interesting fact or hidden talent about yourself?
A: I’m really good at mini golf on Game Pigeon.
Q: What is a hot take of yours?
A: I hate milk. It’s the worst drink to exist in my opinion. It has an awful aftertaste, and soy milk is just so much better.
