Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and things you do in and out of school.
A: Hi! I’m Ruhani! I enjoy singing, and fancy myself as a budding writer. I’m insanely obsessed with Indian Culture. I also love the K-pop Group Stray Kids (my biases are either Hyunjin, Felix, or Bang Chan). I love Arijit Singh and Neha Kakkar, too.
Q: Out of all your extracurriculars, clubs, and sports, which one is your favorite and why?
A: I think my favorite extracurricular is probably either ISA or Debate, because A, I love India, B, I love to argue!
Q: How are you liking your first year at Huron?
A: I’m enjoying it so far! The teachers are really nice, and the students are welcoming!
Q: What is your favorite class so far and why?
A: For sure, math. I haven’t really liked my math classes so far, but my teacher this year is really nice, and Mr. Geiger lets us make mistakes and be stupid sometimes. He’s one of my favorite teachers.
Q: Who is one of your favorite teachers and why?
A: I also really love Ms. Benton, because she makes me laugh in a class which at first look would seem stressful.
Q: What is a class you want to take in the future and why?
A: Definitely Health Science, or Cosmetology. I love both professions linked to them, and they interest me to the point where I’ll forget about everything else, in order to sate my curiosity.
Q: What is something you weren’t expecting about high school?
A: I really didn’t expect to not encounter a single bully, yet—I’m not saying there aren’t bullies here, but I think it says a great deal about the administration that I haven’t seen any yet.
Q: What advice would you give about the first weeks of high school to incoming 8th graders?
A: I’d say, do all your work in class, so you don’t have to worry about much homework (which, in my opinion, piles up pretty easily). Also, be sure to ask questions—teachers love it when you do, and you’ll only gain information (Most people are worrying too much about their own silly questions, to care).
Q: What is an interesting fact or hidden talent about yourself?
A: Well, I can hit a pretty good bullseye. I’m out of practice, though, and it’s only with a nerf gun (definitely not the real thing). I’m also pretty interested in self-defense and martial arts.
Q: What is a hot take of yours?
A: My hot take is that calling is better than texting. Often times, it is easier to tell how someone feels about a specific topic, through facial expressions, or changes in voice. I’ve also found that it helps build relationships with people.
