Kate Huntzicker started her field hockey career as a fourth grader in Rec and Ed. Six years later, she was recruited by the University of Michigan.

Her passion for the sport is undeniable, but playing college-level field hockey wasn’t always in the front of Huntzicker’s mind.

“I didn’t know I wanted to play field hockey in college until after my sophomore season, which is really late in the recruiting world,” she said. “There were always things that needed to be done.”

Regardless of the late start, Huntzicker was able to achieve her goal with hard work as well as the community she’d built within her time in the sport.

“My aunt was very familiar with the recruiting process as well as my coaches who helped me out with it. I had a lot of resources and I’m so grateful for everyone who helped me”

Many aspects of her career have shaped who she is as an athlete, most notably Huron Field Hockey. Being a captain this year, Huntzicker has had to learn leadership and diligence skills as well as organizational skills. Not only that, but the team’s chemistry really shaped her experience.

“Our team culture with Huron Field Hockey is honestly the best,” she said “I love my team so much, I think overall it’s shown me what being on a team is.”

Huntzicker will start at the U of M in the fall of 2026.
