Her voice drives the group, making it very obvious that the band puts a lot of thought and time into their music, which is greatly rewarded with the songs hitting the top of the charts. They write their songs about real-life issues like sexual harassment, betrayal, insecurity, and human emotion.

One of the band’s most famous songs, “Dog Days Are Over” was featured in the popular movie, “Guardians of the Galaxy” causing a new surge of popularity for them. Florence and The Machine has also gained lots of new listeners by their songs being used on apps like TikTok. Listeners say that one of their songs called “Girl with One Eye” can be used to resemble ‘female rage’.
The song starts with Florence speaking sorrowfully about another girl for having a pretty face and feeling that she is overreacting. However, as the song continues, the listeners learn that the girl with the pretty face hurt Florence by getting her in trouble for what she did. It’s alluded that the girl wants Florence’s heart, not in a loving way, but rather in an act of violence. In the song, she says, “Oh, my reputation’s kinda clouded with dirt//That’s why you sleep with one eye open, But that’s the price you’ll pay”. Florence gets fed up with how the girl is harassing her and decides to cut out her eye. This can be interpreted as her revenge against the girl by forever taking something that is a part of her.
With numerous albums, some of my favorites including ‘Lungs’ and ‘How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful’, it’s hard to choose their best. Florence & The Machine‘s music is as equally beautiful and talented as the greats before them. The band has so much to offer people with different music types as they can channel them and bring them together. After discovering the band’s music I have not been able to stop listening to their albums; they are addicting.
