The Young People’s Theatre put on “The Drowsy Chaperone”

Lights, singing, acting, dancing and much more. The Young People’s Theater (YPT) is a group that puts on plays and productions three times a year, and this winter they put on the show The Drowsy Chaperone. The cast and crew were pumped.

“The dances were inspired by Broadway 1920s,” dance choreographer Renee Mueller said. “We spent three weeks teaching these dances.”

Dance, according to Mueller, is a way of storytelling, a way that is wonderful and exciting. Mueller has not just been the choreographer for this production but was also the choreographer for the previous Hunchback of Notre Dame, Newsies and many other shows.

But it isn’t just the staff that’s excited, Miraya Latchamsetty and the many other cast members couldn’t wait for the show’s premiere on Feb. 5.

Latchamsetty’s favorite scene was when the gangster pastry chefs were introduced to Kitty, the wannabe mind reader. Latchamsetty also enjoyed the songs and dances.

“The dances truly incorporate the songs,” Latchamsetty said. “The song lyrics were very well put with music.”

Latchamsetty never had a moment of wanting to quit because she couldn’t let down the cast and crew. She said it was “Just a really fun show!”

Latchamsetty’s favorite part of YPT is the new connections she made there. She loves that everyone is so nice and kind.

“I have made new connections with a lot of people and I still keep in touch with them,” Latchamsetty said.

YPT is a group of dedicated cast members, directors, choreographers, and friends that put on great shows three times a year. YPT is putting on the show Matilda this spring. YPT doesn’t just put on mainstage productions however, they also have summer camps.
